Step-by-Step Guide to Prime the CALIFIA® Patient Module (CPM).
Power ON the CPM. Turn on the CALIFIA® computer and open the CALIFIA® software. In the upper righthand corner of the Opening Screen click on the pink box labeled "SIM" and select the Califia Patient Module. Select either the CPB or ECMO program tab, then press Continue.
- Connect the Priming Accessory to the CPM. Clamp the segments to be connected to the CPB or ECMO circuit to avoid leaking water ❶.
- Pour about 2.5 Liters of water into the CPM’s reservoir ❷.
- Open the panel on the side of the CPM, load the silastic tubing into the pump and lock it in place by pushing down on the white tubing guide ❸.
- In the Instructor’s Panel, go to "Califia Controls" section and make sure that the Venous and Arterial Valve Openings (VO) are set at 100%.
- In the Arterial Valve Opening panel, press Pressurize and Pump Only buttons ④.
- Deair the tubing between the Arterial and Venous port for about two minutes.
- Set the Arterial Valve Opening to 5% for one minute ⑤.
- Set the Arterial Valve Opening back to 100%.
- Press the Pressurize and Pump Only buttons to shut off the peristaltic pump ⑥.
- Connect the CPB or ECMO circuit to the CALIFIA® Priming Accessory using a fluid-to-fluid connection to avoid introducing air into the system.
